New publication in the research area Inequality and Economic Policy Analysis (INEPA) [20.09.18]
Dr. Henning Mühlen recently published the paper "Structural Transformation and its Relevance for Economic Growth in Sub‐Saharan Africa" in the Review of Development Economics
In the paper, which is available at https://doi.org/10.1111/rode.12543, Dr. Henning Mühlen and his co-authors Matthias Busse and Ceren Erdogan (both Ruhr-University of Bochum) analyze the relevance of structural transformation - the reallocation of economic activities across sectors - for economic growth in a cross-country setting of Sub-Saharan African countries. The authors emphasize the role of the agricultural sector in the African context in the period 1980-2014 and show that the reallocation of labor from (low-productive) agriculture towards other (more productive) sectors contributed significantly to GDP per capita growth.
The paper adds to the literature on cross-country real GDP per capita inequality and therefore contributes to the research area Inequality and Economic Policy Analysis (INEPA) of the Instiutute of Economics at the University of Hohenheim.
The Review of Development Economics is an international, peer-reviewed journal devoted to the publication of high-quality articles covering a full range of topics in development economics.
