Master

We contribute to the Master's programmes in Economics, in International Business and Economics (IBE), and in Management (HMM). We teach all our courses in English.

Mathematical Methods for Business and Economics (MSc IBE)

After completing the course, students can decide which mathematical method(s) to apply to solve an economic problem. Moreover, they can solve economic problems using mathematical tools and methods.

The course is compulsory for IBE students in their 1st semester and is taught in English.

International Trade and Inequality (MSc Economics, MSc IBE, MSc HMM)

In this course, we explore how firm decisions affect aggregate trade and welfare outcomes and the wage distribution. Moreover, we develop a multi-country, mult-sector version of a Ricardian trade model that can be used for quantitative trade policy analysis. Finally, we derive a theory-consistent gravity equation and explore how the gravity framework can be used to (i) inform the quantative analysis and (ii) conduct partial equilibrium trade policy analysis.

The course takes place in winter semesters (3rd semester for Economics students, 3rd semester for IBE students) and is taught in English.

Multinational Firms (MSc Economics, MSc IBE, MSc HMM)

How do firms’ internationalization strategies look like? And how are their decisions affected by increased globalization? This course imparts advanced theoretical and empirical tools for the analysis of multinational firms. It is based on the theory of firm and trade theory. The course shows how economic analysis can be used to analyze the behavior of multinational firms on international goods and factor markets.

The course takes place in summer terms (2nd semester) and is taught in English.

Master Seminar in International Economics (MSc Economics, MSc IBE)

We offer two seminars a year, one seminar in the winter term and one in the summer term. Economics students can participate in both seminars, IBE students can participate in at most one of these seminars.

Topics of the seminar that takes place the winter term relate to contents covered by the module The Microeconomics of Globalization, while topics of the seminar that takes place the summer term relate to contents covered by the module The Macroeconomics of Globalization.

Students are exposed to, respectively, different macroeconomic and microeconomic aspects of globalization discussed in the recent academic literature. Based on this literature, they prepare a presentation and write a seminar paper. They actively contribute to the discussions in class.

The seminar is held in English.
